⚠︎ Caution
- For vehicles without rear parking aid, this solution is plug-and-play. For vehicles with rear parking aid, installing this harness requires removal of the factory connector pin block. The pin block is a waterproof sealing insert placed by Ford in unused slots of exterior connectors. To install our pre-wired terminals, the pin block must first be pushed out using a proper pin removal tool or a very thin, hard, sharp object, after which the supplied wires can be inserted into the correct positions. Please follow the instructions on manual.
- This upgrade package is compatible with all the upgrade from Interceptor Innovations.
Product Description
The 2020–2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility comes from the factory with a heavy-duty Class III tow hitch built directly into its structure—a design choice by Ford to achieve the vehicle’s rear 75-mph crash rating. While the hitch is present on every unit, the vehicles were never equipped with the trailer wiring needed to make the 7-way connector functional. This leaves owners with a hitch that looks ready for towing, but in reality cannot be used as intended. Our OEM Trailer Hitch Wiring Kit solves this limitation by activating the hitch system with factory-spec wiring, connectors, and modules. Once installed, the rear 7-way trailer connector becomes fully operational, exactly as if Ford had offered the towing package from the factory.
Background Information
Most Police Interceptor Utilities, whether still in active duty or retired to civilian ownership, are delivered with a tow hitch that remains little more than structural reinforcement. Without the proper wiring, connecting a trailer is simply not possible—frustrating for drivers who expect the same versatility found in retail Ford Explorer models. This OEM upgrade changes that by enabling true towing capability, engineered specifically for the Interceptor platform.
Our Trailer Hitch Wiring Kit integrates cleanly into the vehicle’s rear harness, avoiding the need for third-party splicing or aftermarket control boxes. The system communicates with the vehicle’s existing electronics, ensuring that trailer lights, signals, and power outputs all function reliably through the original 7-way connector. The result is a towing solution that not only looks factory—it is factory, down to the connectors, routing, and calibration.
For departments, this upgrade allows an Interceptor Utility to support on-duty equipment trailers or specialized gear without compromising the vehicle’s durability. For civilian owners, it unlocks the ability to tow with confidence, adding real-world practicality to an already capable utility vehicle. By transforming a structural hitch into a fully functional towing system, this kit delivers the capability these vehicles were always designed to support.
